Meeting the housing demands of residents is one of the pressing problems that governments today have to deal with, in which they have to both provide sufficient satisfactory accommodation for their ever-growing citizen numbers and ensure environmental protection. In my view, I agree this is a real challenge in current society and believe a potential solution for it would be the redistribution of the population.
Undoubtedly, the adequate provision of satisfactory housing for the increasing number of residents is undeniably necessary to facilitate an improved living quality for them. If these individuals’ houses are equipped with sufficient facilities and amenities and have a spacious living space, they will have a sense of comfort when being at home, thereby alleviating stress after work and fostering their mental well-being. However, this means that a lot of land will be used for the construction of citizens’ housing, leading to the decreased vacant land for growing trees which play a pivotal role in protecting the environment as they absorb CO2 and emit O2. This scarcity of land, as a result, can potentially take a toll on the environment and the ecosystem, ultimately adversely affecting our human health and other species. Moreover, the greenhouse effect due to the erection of numerous housing for the continuously growing population can also cause global warming, resulting in habitat destruction and hostile weather such as drought and flood, which seriously affects flora and fauna and humankind. Thus, simultaneously satisfying people’s comfortable housing needs and the environment from being threatened is a significantly difficult issue that governments have to encounter.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, by redistributing the population of a country, such authorities can mitigate the pressure on the environment but still offer enough pleasing accommodation for their inhabitants. This can be done by equally dividing the population across the nation to limit the number of people concentrating in large cities, lowering the housing demand in these urban areas, and increasing available land for growing trees and forests. To do this, governments can invest in infrastructure and amenity erection like parks, shopping malls and hospitals, and open employment opportunities through building more indutrial plants and enterprises to make suburban and rural areas more atractive to citizens. Once the population distribution is established, the environment will not only be saved but the housing need for the expanding population size is also fulfilled.
In conclusion, it is a conundrum for governments to create enough satisfactory accommodations for their citizens without compromising the environment given the loss of land to plant trees and the greenhouse effect. Nevertheless, I opine that we can remedy this situation if the population redistribution policy is properly carried out.
