There is a debate about whether teenagers should be permitted to use social networking sites, with some arguing that young minds should not use social media, while others advocate that they can use it. In my opinion, I agree that teenagers should use social media; however, I also believe that the guardians of those adolescents should monitor their social media accounts.
Socialising is extremely important for all. In the modern world, where everyone is so busy that they do not have enough time to meet their friends and family on a daily basis, social media is significantly helpful in connecting with loved ones. Students are also suffering from this problem, where they are loaded with a lot of assignments and deadlines. It is social networking sites that help them connect with their peers regularly, and hence they can feel connected. A friend of mine, for example, left his hometown for higher education; he texts me every night after his classes because he is lonely in a new city. In this way, he and I share our daily hustle and share a mutual connection.
Despite all benefits, there are online threats as well, such as online fraud, social anxiety, oversharing personal life, and many more. As socializing over internet scaled, scammers found their way to cheat people online. They generally use fake accounts or links to trap people in their scams. Another issue that grew with social media is social anxiety. As influencers share more about themselves on these apps, young minds tend to follow them blindly without considering their personal choices. Moreover, as their results do not meet their expectations, social anxiety is obvious. These are some of the many reasons that suggest guardians monitor their children’s accounts.
In conclusion, although social media offers many helpful services to young people, it is advised that parents regularly check their children’s social media accounts.
