The educational process is strongly associated with take-home classes. Some people claim that homework is vital for studying and the latter cannot be effective without out-of-class activities. The question is whether home assignments are necessary for students.
There is a common belief that homework can help to better understand the materials taught in class. This is because people have a quiet and comfortable atmosphere at home, which definitely facilitates the learning process. Of course, out-of-class tasks may take a lot of time and, therefore, will not allow course listeners to have enough time to kick back and relax. Nevertheless, if students repeat the lesson once more, they will consolidate new knowledge in long-term memory. Thus, this is about effort investment — students will be able to save time in the future by effectively using materials that are remembered very well.
Many people also hold the view that doing homework can improve the mental health of students. In this way, their time is spent wisely and usefully, so it has a positive effect on self-estimation. It is true that some students will lose the enthusiasm to study hard if the tasks are quite difficult. However, if teachers carefully plan the educational process, students are not struggling with home assignments. To exemplify this, I would have mentioned flipper classes, where theory is learnt at home and applied in the classroom under a professor’s supervision.
Overall, in my opinion, homework is vital for a fruitful educational course. This is because in-class materials will be committed to memory if the home task is completed accurately. It will also help students to deal with stress in long term. Finally, if the materials planned in a correct way, homework does not take a lot of time and efforts.
