Technology has been developing at a dramatic rate these last decades, which also means that the number of people owning mobile phones are increasing significantly in recent years. Even though mobile phones contribute immensely in people’s daily life, it is argued that governments should introduce measures to restrict ownership of these devices since there are potential harmful effects on human’s health.
There have been studies on the bad effects of these mobile devices. Firstly, over usage of phones can lead to some psychological problems like lack of empathy or carelessness. Since mobile phones are addictive, people could be so immersed in their phones that they are unaware of their surroundings, hence the psychological issues. Secondly, using the phones for too long can result in bad postures, eyesight problems as well as hand deformation from holding the phone. Additionally, scientists might have found out that certain radio waves emitted from mobile devices can be a potential cancer seed for humans.
As dangerous as it may sound, these problems would only happen if people overused mobile phones. With the right usage and considerable amount of time accessed, these devices are extremely helpful not only for work related activities. Mobile phones can be used for fast searching, entertainment and effective communication. There are situations when it is crucial to have phones by your side like needing to dial emergency when you get into an accident. Furthermore, in a society where everything is digitalized, not having a phone can be a menace. Those people will not be able to make quick calls, exchange contacts easily or look something up fast when they need to.
On balance, while mobile phones both have their good and bad effects, I believe that the positive side overrules the negative one. With time management and self control, the harmful effects of mobile phones like addiction and declining health can easily be fixed. Conversely, restricting these devices to only those who need them for work would be unfair for other people and unnecessary since they also provide help for other aspects in life aside from work.
