In the past, people used to live in one place their whole life while nowadays, moving out to various places at different stages in life has become more common. From my perspective, this trend is a result of raised life standards and the change in people’s worldviews. It can be a positive or negative development depending on each individual.
In the first place, the economic growth in many developed countries often lowers inflation. This leads to the reduction in housing prices, regular payments or daily expenses, which allows people, especially the young to be financially independent. Thus, they can afford their own houses, pay for their own needs and have more freedom over themselves, which leads to an increase in the number of people living in various places at stages during their life. Furthermore, the change in people’s perspective also contributes to this trend. As poverty has been greatly alleviated, a lot of people nowadays prefer to enjoy their lives in several countries while earning from part-time jobs as they focus more on self-fulfillment rather than a work-oriented lifestyle. This mindset is becoming more common among the youth, making them prefer to travel to different places before settling down in one place.
This trend contributes to people’s career growth while living in those places. Many people would travel from place to place not to find a stable and suitable job but to accumulate a variety of skills and knowledge in different professions. Not only does this gain enrich their knowledge and perspective but it also gives them job opportunities, making them more flexible especially during austerity. However, this lifestyle may affect people’s family bonds. Frequently moving to different places means that people have to live far away from their families. This distance often prevents these people from visiting their parents or their relatives, making family gatherings become rarer. This family disconnection may weaken the family bond, therefore, leading to more conflicts within the family.
In conclusion, raised life standards and shifts in people’s perspectives are one of the main drivers behind this trend which can benefit their careers while also may weaken the family bond. Therefore, a balanced lifestyle between moving and family visits should be followed.
