Nowadays, food sourced locally is becoming extremely widespread, and its influence is growing. Some believe that numerous drawbacks are associated with this; conversely, my own view, this process can play a more crucial role, especially in promoting environmental sustainability and improving local marketing.
On the positive side, one of the most significant benefits of locally produced food is to be fresher and healthier. For example, vegetables harvested from local farms reach consumers within a day, retaining more nutrients and flavour compared to those which travel long distances. Moreover, locally based food is economically beneficial for both developed and developing nations. I believe that, especially in Mongolia, major food corporations are among the largest employers, contributing to national budgets through tax revenue. Therefore, locally produced food can bring meaningful benefits for both individuals and society.
Nonetheless, domestic food sources can negatively affect lifestyle in some way. Local food may not be able to grow all types of food, particularly exotic fruits or products which require a unique climate. In some countries, for example, cold condition makes it arduous to plant tropical fruits such as banana, mangoes, and pineapple, leading to the importation of foreign products. Furthermore, the local area is often produced on a small scale that demands intensive labour without the mass production methods used by large international manufacturers, and prices can be higher due to expenses.
In conclusion, despite some limitations, locally produced food has played a crucial role in improving health and supporting the economy.
