Using social media as a source for medical advice and check ups is a growing trend in the contemporary world. I consider that the main reasons which lead to this tendency are financial constraints and a lack of time.
As time goes on, people tend to prioritize matters related to their work and families, resulting in not having sufficient time to spend themselves. Typically, going to medical centers physically is considered the waste of time by these individuals. Therefore, they prefer to search for information on browser since it requires less time and provides immediate diagnosis. For instance, Azerbaijanians usually try to treat cough and flu by consuming special hot drinks which recipies are taken from the Internet.
In addition, it should be noted that costs of medical assistance and check ups are significantly increasing day by day. In terms of affordability, it cannot be said that all people can benefit from these services. As opposed to hospitals, getting recommendations about methods to care any ailment is completely free of charge on social media. For example, while stuff demands a payment to measure blood pressure in medical centers, some apps do the same thing without any money. Consequently, the Internet becomes the better option for more and more people due to its financial advantages.
In conclusion, I believe that time scarcity related to work particularly leads to a rise in reputation of social media as a tool for getting immediate medical advice. Furthermore, given the reality that the Internet is free while costs of services in hospitals are considerably high, financial issues can be thought as another reason.
