Most people desire to live and work in large, urban cities due to the abundance of opportunities, multi-storey buildings, entertainment centers, and large malls. However, only those who live in these cities truly understand the challenges they face. This essay will examine these problems, their underlying reasons, and propose some solutions.
One of the primary issues of living in a large city is the frequent and unbearable traffic jams along with air pollution caused by gasoline-powered cars. This issue is prevalent in most cities around the world, and citizens are often exhausted by it. A potential solution is for the government to enact a law limiting families to one car and for individuals to adopt alternative modes of transportation, such as biking or walking, similar to practices in Sweden.
Another significant concern is the high cost of food, clothing, and the overall cost of living. While the face value of these expenses varies by country, prices are generally much higher in large cities. This often forces residents to work harder and longer hours, which can negatively impact their health. To address this issue, the government should consider implementing measures to reduce the prices of essential goods.
Additionally, crowding poses a major challenge for urban dwellers in their daily lives. As mentioned earlier, many people either want to live in or visit the city, resulting in a constant influx of crowds. Traffic congestion is also exacerbated by this issue. Given that cities host numerous exceptional schools, universities, and entertainment options, many individuals from rural areas migrate to urban centers. A viable solution would be to establish similar facilities and opportunities in rural regions, thus alleviating some of the pressure on cities.
In conclusion, citizens encounter a range of problems in their daily lives due to factors such as traffic congestion, high costs, and crowding. Unless the government addresses these issues, city living will remain challenging. In my opinion, it is the government’s responsibility to find effective solutions.
