My name is Thevaraj Kumuthan. My family owned a small-scale business in our hometown Bandarawella, Sri Lanka. Due to financial and management failure, my parents were forced to shut down the business. From that day onwards, my life goal has been to restart the company which was shut down by my parents. I always believed that studying business management would be one of the best options for the future. Furthermore, the scientific and mathematical aspects of Civil Engineering have fascinated me since the beginning of my secondary education. As I enjoy such challenging work, I was more inclined towards Civil Engineering.
Firstly, I completed my schooling in 2010 at S. Thomas’ College Bandarawella. Due to financial barriers, I quit my higher studies and joined as an Imports Assistant in a medical organization named Swiss Biogenics Pvt Limited until 2012. Then, to support my family further, I joined an international construction company called Ismail Bin Ali Trading and Contracting in Qatar as an Admin Assistant. After stabilizing my family’s financial issues, with the experience gained from my working experience, I started my higher national diploma in 2018 and completed my bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Liverpool John Moores University in 2022.
I am currently working as a Civil Engineer with Melwire Rolling Private Limited in Sri Lanka, where I am assigned to the construction of steel structures and industry-related construction. It is a very challenging job, but my inclination to work under hard situations has always helped me to learn more. Likewise, the practical experience of designing and working on the site has really helped me to gain hands-on experience in understanding a variety of techniques and skills for managing the site and analyzing the projects to complete on time. These experiences have guided me to achieve my goal of reopening my father’s company again, but knowledge in management and the financial industry is more important, so I decided to pursue an MBA program.
Canada is a highly innovative country that allows students to learn and develop their skills with newly introduced innovative methods. Canada’s education system is one of the best in the world compared to some other countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and other European countries. Comparatively, Canadian people are more friendly and multicultural, which makes it more interesting to study in Canada. Canadian universities have an approachable environment with a strong focus on group work. The Canadian education system focuses more on academic interests than pushing you to achieve a grade. These universities work to prepare you for a successful future, and the job market values ambitious, innovative, and perceptive team players. Therefore, Canadian universities attempt to instill these qualities in their students. I think this type of education system will help me achieve my goals.
The course that I have chosen is Master of Business Administration (MBA) at University Canada West (UCW). Most of my seniors and old studies highly recommend the university. So, I selected this university, and I hope this will be the perfect choice to achieve my goal of reopening my parents’ old business. I hope that after my studies, I will start and run the company in a grateful way to achieve greater heights.
