Law enforcement activities sometimes associated with the police and their weapons, especially guns. However, the police in the United Kingdom are different with most other countries in the world as they do not normally carry guns on their duty. There are two different perspectives toward this phenomenon. Some people opposed of this practice, while other group of people believe it will reduce the overall level of violence. In my opinion, it is important for the police to carry guns in doing their jobs.
It is totally understandable why do some people in the UK prefer the police to carry a weapon. If something bad happens, police will be able to handle that and protect the citizens. For example, if there is a bank robbery and the robbers, who carry some guns, held some people as their hostages, the police have to be able to deal with this situation. It will be much safer for the hostages and polices if they carry a gun, just in case the situation is getting worse.
However, there is also a group of people who agree with the condition where the police do not bring the guns in their activities. These people believe that it will reduce the level of violence. For example, when there is a citizen who breaks the law, the police will not instantly use their gun to deal with this situation. Thus, less violence will be involved in similar cases.
All in all, in my opinion, I do believe that the police have to be prepared to deal with any level of criminal activities. They have to ensure that people also can feel safer when they are around. That is why, carrying a gun could be the best choice to mitigate worse criminal activities.
