Band 5+: Public transport should be free for all in developed countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is argued that developed nations should impose law on cost-free usgae of public transportation. Although all high ranked countries might have capabilities of providing free transportation, I strongly disagree that such implemenation would cost government lots of money from the budget, where it can be used for other purposes.

Firstly, many people use government-owned transport system for ages, and which they believe is the most efficient form of travel. In countries such as The United States, Canada and Germany have free public transportation for people below twelve and above sixty. This is not means that these facilities should be free for all the people. Certain level of ticket fee would help the government to invest on improving the road construction and also to built new highways. As a result, more and more people can use public transport for their daily commutes, which would be a support for the improvement in the cities and reduce carbon footprint.

Secondly, there are many wealthy nations around the world still lacks in investing in certain fields. For example, medical facilities of Canada is not accessible to everyone on time, eventhough it is having free healthcare for all, due to long waiting times in the emergency department and for the surgeries. So instead of announcing public free transport for all, the government can improve the healthcare system, which requires scrupulous amount of funding compare to mere fees for the travel in the buses or trains, which can be easily payable by the people. Additionally, these measure not only improve the quality of the people, but also open gates for innovation in these fields to reach a top-notch success.

In conclusion, while some people would side with free transport facilities to all of its people in the developed countries, I strongly believe that government should not impose free public access for all and it would create massive deficits in allocating to other sectors.
