Answer: It is argued that the government should provide monetary help to artists, while others think that this is a waste of money. I think there are a lot of other areas, apart from culture, art, and literature, where the government should focus more in terms of providing financial support. However, in this essay, I will endeavour to elaborately discuss both perspectives.
First, without literature and art, our lives would be mundane. Many countries’ image depends on the cultural diversity of that country. Since literature consists of different genres such as music, art, dance, painting, and many more, in order to enhance any country’s cultural background, the government should motivate artists to make more of those types of works. For instance, India is one of the most famous countries in terms of serving different kinds of cultural and traditional arts. If artists did not create arts and other similar stuff, then it would be impossible for India to reach that level now in terms of serving arts and painting to people. Therefore, I think the government should encourage artists to produce more art by providing financial support.
However, there are some other areas, like the medical sector or defence line, that are more crucial than art and literature. Since many developing and underdeveloped countries are still far behind compared to other developed countries in terms of providing good-quality medical services, I think the governments of those countries should concentrate more on those fields before art and culture. For example, if we think about our country, the residents of our country do not get proper medical services, and they have to spend a fortune to buy valuable medicines, which is very difficult for impoverished or middle-class people. Hence, if our government spends more money in that sector, then it will be very beneficial for countries like ours.
Furthermore, the government should provide more money to any country’s defence sector. Because during every natural calamity, such as drought, flood, or storm, and war-related issues, the army, navy, and air force have to provide significant services to their nations. So, I think spending money in these fields is way more important than providing money to artists.
In a nutshell, I do admit that every artist deserves financial support from the government. However, the government should concentrate more on other important fields, such as medical and defence, first. Because during any adverse phase, the general public of any country directly depends on these sectors.
