Band 4+: Recent studies have shown that overweight people tend to eat more 'junk food' that are high in unhealthy fats. Some people argue that the increase in the price of such food will serve as a deterrent and thus reduce the number of overweight people. Do you agree or disagree?

According to the latest studies it has been seen that people who eat junk food are overweight. A Possible solution given by some people is that hike in price of such food items can reduce this problem. I believe its not fully true that increase in price will reduce the consumption of outside food.

Firstly, there are number of people who are living overseas for different reasons. There are students who are living far from their families for their studies due to which they don’t have the option to eat rather than eating fast food, which has really bad impact on their health. Obesity is one of them. Adding on, even if the price of junk food is increased it might reduce the consumption with some percentage. It won’t be a permanent solution for the problem because food is one necescity which is the basic need to survive. In some countries, junk food can be found really cheap and at the same time really expensive as well.

To solve this issue people need to be self-focused. Moreover, In schools negative effects of eating oily and processed food should be taught along with that, physical activity classes should also be more often so that students who are overweight can reduce their weight. For example, my friend stopped eating junk food when his teacher told him about his increase in weight is due to his eating habits and what are the bad future effects on him.

To conclude, some people are helpless to eat food from outside due to personal reasons and increasing the price won’t matter much as people who have to eat they will eat. Some of the solutions like teaching side effects of eating daily outside and increasing physical activity can be a possible solution.
