Band 5+: Recent studies have shown that overweight people tend to eat more 'junk food' that are high in unhealthy fats. Some people argue that the increase in the price of such food will serve as a deterrent and thus reduce the number of overweight people. Do you agree or disagree?

The modern era, people are easily targeted to overweight. Studies have shown that majority of the patients who are suffering is due to them consuming high amount of ‘junk food’ with huge volume of unhealthy fats. Thus, many have come forward to state that increasing the price of such harmful items would reduce the number of overweight citizens. I, on contrary, disbelieve with this idea.

Firstly, one cannot deny that these items, although unhealthy , are highly addictive; their bodies would constanly carve for it once they have gotten used to such meals.Hence, many citizens would save up their monthly spending in order to buy such eatables as their bodies want these empty calories. For instance, my friend constantly tries to conserve its and bits of money to eat expensive noddles and other delicacies.

On the other hand, It is true that increasing the price of products would decrease the amount of overweight individuals; However it is not the ultimate solutions as there are many loopholes in it. In contrast, people will only be interested in taking care of their health when they face problem or have diseases because of it. For example, my partner has given up on eating French fries, because his doctor has told him that his asthma attack were the result of overeating which cause an unhealthy weight gain and reduced stamina.

I strongly disbelieve stated idea as one would implicate good thing in life even though they are bitter, after they suffer consequences of not following the right path.

In conclusion, increasing prices of junk food would not be the ultimate solution and people should look out for other alternatives or have self-realisation.
