Band 7+: Schools should ban junk food. To what extent, do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people argue that junk food ought to be prohibited due to its negative impact on health. I disagree with this idea, as junk food offers flexibility for people with hectic daily routines and prohibiting it would limit individual freedom in food choice.

In today’s society, junk food provides flexibility for individuals with busy schedules. Many people have limited time due to their demanding work, academic pressure, or long commuting hours, which make it difficult to prepare meals at home on daily routines. As a result, junk food becomes a practical option that assist them to save time while still managing their daily responsibilities efficiently. For example, office employees and university students often rely on junk food during lunch breaks or after long working hours while cooking is not possible. Therefore, banning junk food could create inconvenience for some people to cope with their fast paced lifestyle.

Moreover, prohibiting junk food would restrict individual freedom in choosing food, as individuals have different preferences and eating habits shaped by their culture. This type of restriction may considered unreasonable since food choices are part of personal enjoyment. For instance, during social gatherings, people commonly consume snacks or fast food as a way to socialize and feel more relaxed. Consequently, strictly limiting junk food could make people feel that their personal choices are being controlled.

In conclusion, I disagree with the view of forbidding junk food due to it provides flexibility and protects individual freedom in food choices. This idea would be unnecessary as people should be free to decide what they want to eat.
