Some argue that the government should have complete authority over scientific research. While the government plays a crucial role in the development of humanity, I strongly believe that collaboration between government and private funds could better serve this purpose.
To begin with, there are numerous reasons why people believe governments should carry out scientific research. Firstly, scientific research, due to its distinctive qualities, necessitates an extensive expenditure of time, money, and effort. It is considered that only governments can invest continually in these initiatives and would not sacrifice long-term goals for temporary financial gains. Secondly, scientific studies controlled by governments will ensure that reliable and ethical methods are used, and minimize the risk of these studies being used for criminal activity.
However, besides the control of governments on scientific projects, I believe that the participation of private companies will certainly contribute to achieving the aimed goal. The main reason is that government officials are no experts in either the scientific or business sectors. While private fundings are profit-driven, they would better specialize in commercializing scientific achievements. Furthermore, owing to the government’s financial contribution, private foundations now have a larger amount of time and effort to devote to scientific topics that require research. Thus, this ensures the quality output of the intended purpose. Cooperation between the two sides will not only level the playing field but also alleviate the burden of much of the government’s workload.
In conclusion, I believe that scientific research could be better controlled and commercialized with the collaboration of the government and private companies.
