Many argue that the government should invest resources for scientific research instead of companies. I fully agree with that opinion due to two main reasons.
Scientific research should be funded by the government more than by companies, because the government will always focus on beneficial aspects for the population. Without people the government can’t do anything so that is the main reason why they will always care about the population. Scientists with the help of their research can find a solution to current issues and might help to prevent diseases, because population health is a crucial thing of countries’ development. For example, in 2019 many countries such as the USA, China and Germany spent big amounts of money for research during which scientists should have found a vaccine against coronavirus. At the beginning it seemed impossible, but investments and encouragement led to new discoveries and helped them to create the first vaccine against COVID-19. In addition the second reason is that the government can afford to fund explorations in the long-term, because they have more resources than companies. For example, Apple is a famous world brand, but they can spend less money than the government.
In contrast companies should fund less money for the explorations due two different reasons. First of all, the only two things companies will always care about is their finances and income. It doesn’t matter what type of explorations they invest in, they can not support this research for a long time, because companies are only interested in problems that they can solve and benefit from this without focusing on reliability of results or advantages for the population. This irresponsibility is slowing down the progress of basic sciences. Secondly, they won’t support basic science research, because it has many risks. Companies need fast profit from their expenditure, but science can’t let them do that. While government can support researchers during the whole process and take all risks.
In conclusion, I’d like to point out that researchers should be supported by the government more than by the companies, because scientific research demands long term investments in order to achieve goals by any means. Meanwhile, companies are focusing on their own profit.
