Keeping fit is essential to ensure a hale and hearty life, free of illnesses. That is why scientists have advocated for individual’s to take conscious efforts to perform some healthy exercises to ensure their wellbeing. However, this advice is still not taken serious despite proven benefits. This is because a lot of people are already used to living sedentary lifestyles and are already reliant on automation for most of their work. Nevertheless, a number of things could be done at different levels, to promote incorporation of this healthy lifestyle.
Nowadays, most people prefer to live sedentary lifestyles. This is because it is an easier lifestyle to incorporate, requiring little to no effort as opposed to being active, which expands more energy. For example, despite being aware of the physical benefit of exercise, lots of individuals still prefer to tak a cab or bus rather than walking or cycling even short distances. Another reason why people prefer to ignore healthy activities is due to advancement in technology which has made almost every human activity automated. A good example is the introduction of lifts in place of staircases. Furthermore, with the advent of the internet, lots of individuals, especially the youngstars dedicate most of their time to their phones, further contributing to the sedentary lifestyle, thereby leaving only little time left for other activities including physical exercises.
Despite these reasons for poor compliance with healthy activities, individuals, healthcare workers as well as the government all have roles to play to promote incorporation of this healthy lifestyle. Individuals should be more health conscious, and strive to engage in more active activities to promote their health. Healthcare workers should do more health promotion and enlightenment of the general public on the physical and mental benefits of keeping fit. Furthermore, government could also encourage people on healthy living by increasing charges or taxes associated with some of these automated amenities and machines such as cars and buses, lifts and WiFi.
To conclude, sedentary living and technologic advancements are the major contributors to inactive lifestyles. Individual, health care workers and government all have roles to play to ensure integration of this healthy living.
