Band 4+: Scientists have been warning for many years about environmental protection and how important it is to limit our personal energy consumption. What are the causes of the over-consumption of electricity? How can people be encouraged to use less energy?

Over the last decades more and more warnings regarding electric consumption were heard. It is known that the over-consumption leads to many problems concerning a wide range of spheres, that is why it extremely crucial to find the roots of its fenomena. Equally important is finding the solution on how to encourage people to cut down the energy usage. In this essay I discuss the issue and try to find appropriate answers on the stated questions.

The most obvious cause of over-consumption is the assumption that the energy is infinite and human’s population will never run out of it. In reality, it is far from beeing the truth. As you might know, we have two types of energy sources – renewable and non-renewable ones. Fisrtly, let me touch the non-renewable sources of energy, for exsample, oil, coal, gas, etc. Judjing by its name, soon or later such a type of energy source will eventually get depleted. Saying nothing that in the recent times countries deliberately dicrease their dependence on non-renewable sources, becaue using it is extremely harmful for the ecology due to the pollution.

It might cross your mind that on the countrary the renewable sources of energy are the ones that will always be available since sun, air or water streams are exactly the types of natural power that seem to be constant. In fact it is not enough to have it, people must have special appliances to convert it into electricity. As you might hint, you need extra resources to do this.

I believe that people are not aware of above information which causes their irresponsible attitude to electricity usage. It is not surprising as the chain of energy production is too complicated. If people need to acquaint themselves with it, this requires deepening their knowledge in the realm which is not very easy. Goverment and local authorities should encourage people to investigate and address the issue, as well as aknowledge them.

On balance, I believe that people are not well-educated because the topic is too compicated which lead to over-consuming. If they are well tought of it, it will lead to a drastic decrease in electicity usage and more repsonsible attitude.
