Band 7+: Scientists predict that all people will choose to talk the same global language in the future. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

According to scientists and some linguists around the world, there is a projection that in the near future, the majority of people will opt to speak only one international language. This essay will examine both the positive and negative implications of this trend in the following paragraphs, drawing a reasoned conclusion.

Starting with the positive impacts of a universal language, one significant benefit is the elimination of language discrimination. For example, if everyone worldwide could communicate in the same international language, it would not only be easier to learn but would also have a positive impact on travelers, students, and anyone who faces language barriers while moving from one place to another. It is important to note that this would benefit nearly all economies globally. Moreover, a common language promotes collaboration, understanding, and enhances relationships among individuals and communities. For instance, a study conducted by Oxford University in 2016 revealed that 65% of students struggled to bridge communication gaps during their academic pursuits.

However, despite the potential advantages of a universal language, it could have a significant impact on the culture and traditions of specific countries, potentially eroding them and leading people to forget their own cultural identities easily.

In conclusion, the adoption of a global language has both positive and negative effects. In my opinion, its significance should not be underestimated.
