Although there is a common concern that free access to clean water is difficult, I am of the opinion that it is imperative that free access to clean water be a fundamental human right for three compelling reasons, with reference to health, politics, and the environment.
First and foremost, according to the United Nations, should humans’ health, including free access to water, is ignored, which means human rights are trampled on. Therefore, free access to water is of paramount importance, be it required monetary resources or labor.
Additionally, free access to clean water will bring about positive consequences in term of politics. This is because if countries provide monetary resources for impoverished nations as ODA, not only do nations obtain political influence, but also impoverished nations are able to mitigate the number of people who are afflicted due to the scarcity of daily sustenance.
Finally, free access to water will be a solution to looming climate crisis because water pollution is the root of the environmental crisis. Thus, free access to clean water could lead to a better environment when it comes to combating climate changes.
In conclusion, given the aforementioned reasons, the United Nations’ statements, political influences, and the solution for imminent climate crisis that could wreak havoc on our societies make it clear that free access to clean water must be a fundamental human right.
