It is argued that two-way feedback from students might affect the teachers’ reputation and lead to chaos in the classroom. While there are some strong arguments to support these ideas, I am of the opinion that giving recommendations might result in the betterment of education.
On the on hand, the opinion of students giving evaluations to teachers are attractive for several reasons. Firstly, with the lack of emotional maturity and experience in the workforce, the majority of students might give judgmental comments. As a result, the reputation of teachers is likely to be affected by the unjust comments of students, whether it is about the teachers’ teaching methodologies, the body gesture or the voice. Another reason is that it could impair the quality of the lessons when such a large number of students are granted the chance to give their own opinions. This could be explained by the fact that opinions vary from students to students, and it would be impractical for students to satisfy all the students’ needs.
On the other hand, there are a variety of reasons why I believe that students should be given chances to give feedbacks and evaluate teachers. The first reason relates to the understanding and needs of individuals which are the core of education. This is because the comprehension of the lessons varied among students, they should be allowed to raise their voice to let teachers know whether the speed of the lessons is appropriate, or there are some poorly understood parts. Thanks to this, educators can refine their methods and make appropriate adjustments to better suit their students. Furthermore, this development could help teachers enhance their pedagogical skills. As teachers are forced to alter their teaching methods, they are likely to come up with more innovative approaches, and develop the flexibility in dealing with unexpected cases in the classroom.
In conclusion, although equipping students with the power to evaluate students presents certain disadvantages, I still believe this is more advantageous to empower students with the evaluation ability as it can enhance greatly the teaching and learning quality.
