Nowadays, there is a point of view that the environment where there is a high level of competition is appropriate both for studies and work. This essay discusses the advantages and disadvantages of such conditions and suggests examples that will support my point of view.
To begin with, competitions at the place where individuals educate or work have some benefits. Firstly, it allows people to improve their performance. In other words, this environment motivates individuals to become more successful and better than their colleagues or classmates. For instance, there is much research that proves that students who study in a competitive environment have higher results than those who do not. Secondly, this environment can help people to get used to difficult tasks. To put it differently, individuals understand how to deal with people in any situation. As an example, many students mention that these conditions improve their confidence and calmness, when it comes to complicated exercises.
However, there are also many drawbacks. To start with, these conditions can lead to mental issues. To put things into perspective, competition increases anxiety. According to the statistics, individuals who have an experience of studying or working in a competitive environment have a higher rate of stress in 52 percentage points than those who do not. Moreover, they have bad blood in a group where they work or study. In other words, their relationships are quite unpleasant because of endless competitions. As an example, some people who work in such environments leave their working place because of conflicts with colleagues.
To sum everything up, competitions at work or school have pros and cons. On the one hand, it motivates members of society and makes them resistant to challenges. On the other hand, it can lead to a high level of stress and harm the relationships inside a team.
