It is certainly a remarkable achievement for humanity that people now live longer than a century ago, however, ecologists claim that it intensifies our consumption of natural resources which might be harmful for our planet. I agree with this statement and genuinely believe we should do more to protect Earth’s flora and fauna.
First of all, travelling is more common today. For example, people love to spend their retirement in the countries with mild climate and open access to the sea. That leads to increase of airplanes usage, which produce a lot of carbon dioxide emissions. It exacerbates the issue of global warming, that is now more serious than ever. Another reason is that the growth of life duration causes more consumption of non-renewable resources, such as water, coal, gas, for each individual throughout the whole life.
In spite of these negative effects, however, rise of life expectancy has brought important benefits for nature as well. One such advantage is that there are numerous ecological organisations that help to protect natural habitat of wild animals, lobby legalisations that help to protect the environment, plant trees. People are forecasted to live longer, so they care more about their planet and that is the reason for good funding of these structures.
To sum up, while there are some obvious benefits for people, increase in life duration has brought Earth many drawbacks at the same time. I believe humanity has to live in a more sustainable way, use green energy and reduce the usage of fossil fuels.
