It is true that over the last 100 year the life expectancy has changed significantly in every part of the world and nowadays people enjoy a healthy life into their 80s. While some people tend towards the viewpoint that the quality of life increased and the development of medicine expend people’s lifespan, I would have to support the idea that despite the benefits above the environment suffers and continues to use all non-renewable resources such as coal, oil, gas and etc.
On the one hand, there are clear arguments that since the Industrial Revolution, the volume of methane and carbon dioxide has dramatically increased, and human activities are a major contributor to air pollution. One of the main reasons is that since 1950, the temperature of the planet has risen by approximately 1.5°C. This has led to global warming and damage to the Earth. Another reason is that the frequency of extreme weather phenomena, such as earthquakes, storms, and heavy precipitation, has increased. For example, this summer in Moscow was an unusually high temperature, the hottest in the last 100 years.
On the other hand, I agree that the development of medical sciences requires significant resources and new technology. Firstly, I believe that the high quality of modern medicine comes with a cost, and without these advancements we wouldn’t be able to manage vaccinations and medications effectively. This is because the production of pills involves complex processes and materials that are crucial for medical progress. Secondly, I also feel that while these progresses are essential for improving health, we need to ensure that our methods are sustainable and minimize harm to the environment.
In conclusion, it seems to me that we should not only focus on increasing life expectancy but also work to reduce our impact on the planet by using renewable energy sources and implementing environmental projects.
