Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 7+: Social media is becoming more and more popular with young people these days. Why do you think this is? What are the advantages and disadvantages of social media for young people?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Social media in our contemporary world has affected our lives drastically, specifically the younger generation. This essay will highlight the positive and negative effects of using social media among youngsters.

Social media is widely used by the younger generation due to some factors. First, youngsters can connect with their friends, family, and relatives over social media, engage in public conversations, and feel connected to the world while sitting in their room. Secondly, it offers young individuals a platform to express their ideas, views, perspectives, and opinions about whatever they feel like talking about. Additionally, it allows people to stay connected with people around the globe, receive the latest information, news, advancements, and protests happening worldwide.

Although it may seem that social media has numerous positive effects, this is not true; social media has notable drawbacks that cannot be ignored. Firstly, a major problem that youngsters face is addiction to social media, which can cause a substantial amount of damage in the long run. Subsequently, leading to lack of focus, increase in screen time, and prolonged use can lead to irritation in the eyes and insomnia. Furthermore, social media can make individuals feel a sense of low self-esteem among other users, and activities like cyberbullying and cyber harassment are also prevalent, which may lead to deterioration of an individual’s mental health.

In conclusion, although social media offers numerous advantages for young people including convenience, connectivity, social interactions, and a way to express themselves, it also poses numerous negative impacts that are often ignored by youngsters. At the end, I would suggest being responsible and using social media for staying connected and being productive.
