Tourism is one of the most important industries, which can strongly affect the growth of a nation’s economy and will continue to develop at a rapid pace over the next few decades. It is said that investing in tourism is a positive way to create more opportunities for employment and develop economic growth. Others, however, argue that developing in the tourism industry has detrimental effects on some local areas. In this essay, I would evaluate both pros and cons of this way of investment before giving my own opinion.
On the one hand, the potential drawbacks of investing in tourism can be catastrophic for the local people who are living in tourist areas. There are thousands of tourists arriving to destination culture a year, resulting in an increase in the demand for accommodation and housing. Infact, overtourism is putting pressure on housing expense of residents which make people are renting houses can not afford the fee. For example: Tourism in Spain has brought about a significant influence in their economy, however, after Covid-19, they receive more hundred visitors to visit and therefore the price rental are raised up, the local people protest to reject visitors.
On the other hand, investing in tourism infrastructures to develop destinations has positively impacted a nation’s economy. Some destinations are recreated, which not only decrease unemployment rate but also attract more tourists around the world. In fact, recontribution destination will make the valueable of the area high, this produce a changes to people working. As a result, more tourists come to destination countries and thus increase resident’s income, create job, and improve standard lives.
In conclusion, l disagree with this statement. Tourism is a pivotal contribution to the economy, however, focusing on investing in tourism leads to the increase of price in some products or rentals, causing a detrimental effect on local people.
