There is a growing body of opinion in favor of choosing an authority that is responsible for conducting and managing scientific research. Personally, I believe both governments and private companies should be encouraged to freely conduct research; however, all accomplishments should undergo assessments done by governments to get recognized.
It is undeniable that all government-based sectors are highly reliable and legitimate despite some over-complicated procedures. With rigorous legal framework for conducting research, the overall quality and practical implications will be ensured, thereby devising more societal breakthroughs. Reliability aside, this strict management also helps eliminate criminal activities in science, such as pseudoscience, destructive medicines and animal experiments. Having said that, this can have adverse effects as complicated justification and limited funds may discourage scientists from continuing their projects. As a result, scientific campaigns will be dropped halfway, whereas professionals will be less inclined to pursue this career path.
In contrast, although lack credibility, private businesses can offer a variety of funding and promotions to professionals in this sector, with no restrictions or limitations regarding subjects. Given that companies are outnumbered governmental departments in this industry, the procedures are less complex with a larger number of subjects allowed to carry out, innovators can get motivated to follow their aspired topic, fostering positive competition and resulting in more empirical contributions. For example, many medical corporations, including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, competed to release the most optimal vaccine to foster social immunization in the 2019 word wide pandemic. Nevertheless, the lack of the major authority in management can lessen the scientific values due to an increasing in unethical behaviours, including fraud data, plagiarism and illegal purposes. While some argue that restriction can limit humans’ creativity, the reality is that rules can drive more responsible investigation towards a modernize society.
In conclusion, my firm conviction is that all organizations can deliberately carry out research to spread the burdens in this area and drive innovations. However, government should be the only authority who can control and recognize the credibility of those studies for the legitimate and responsible nature of science.
