Some people assert that the increasing use of vertical farming in cities may be considered as a useful solution to food security, whereas others claim that it undermines traditional forms of farming. I believe, that using new methods of farming as vertical farming can be very helpful for solving global issues like poverty.
Vertial farming can be useful not only because it saves more space and prevents issues like soil degradation, but also because it helps to solve problems as famine. When farmers stop using only ground for planting, more opportunities to save money may appear. Particularly, with less pressure to infrastructure and transportation, cost-effiency of the product may rise. Therefore, more people are able to buy healthy products without having to spend too much money on them.
However, traditional farming methods should be apprecieted more because it require the manual labour the most. Most of the people, who live in rural areas and villages make money for life by planting and collecting different types of fruits and vegetables. Therefore, the popularisation of vertical farming may be extremely harmful for them as they loose their jobs. Agriculture is one of the way of living that was inherited from our ancestors and has a deep meaning in culture. Moreover, it is not clear how problems like air pollution and the usage of fertilizers affect the quality of products, while products that were grown outside of the cities do not have to be questioned about that.
In conclusion, althought using vertical farming may be one of the best solutions to problems sush as food security, the importance of traditional farming should not be undermined and human labour should not be overlooked.
