As the culture of tourism continues to expand, there have been ongoing debates from many individuals, some of whom believed that international tourism is crucial for the prosperity of both a country’s economy and the exchange of cultures between different nationalities. Whereas, many others, oppose this idea, believing that large tourism only leads to the destruction of the surrounding environment and local traditions. This essay will discuss both of these views and provide an opinion at the end.
Admittedly, mass toursim can negatively impact our environments due to pollutions and gas emissions. The travel to a tourist destination is nowwhere near close, so many national tourists are required to travel by planes and continue futher by cars or buses in order to get to the designated spot. This kinds of transportation comes with a price as it heavily emits harmful gases such as CO2 into our atmosphere, resulting in air pollution. Futhermore, tourists can spoil beautiful areas by leaving their wastes behind, destroying the pristine site. Moreover, foreigners can be uninformed by the traditional customs in the place they’re visiting in which may lead to accidental inappropriation of the local traditons.
However, aside from this, large tourism also provide many upsides, as it foster cutural exchanges and boost the overall country’s economy. Tourism plays a major role in many developing countries’ economy, including Cambodia. Not only does the goverment profits from the huge amount of tourists every year. It also opens up job opputinies for many citzens. For instance, many cambodian have opted for selling souveneirs, driving, performing and estasblishing guest houses, restaurants as a sources of income. Without tourists who consume and purchase there services, there lives would be much harder to go by. Futhermore, tourisms allows for a country’s culture to be exposed and become more well known to many parts of the world. Tourism can expose the beauty of ancient historical sites and varieties of traditions globally through social platforms. This will not only allow for more populaity and appreciation but also ensure that the beauty and history behind those cultures remains etched in humanity’s hearts.
In conclusion, while mass tourism can result in environmental damage and erosion of locals tradition, I belive that the positive impacts that tourism brings far outweigh its downsides as it enables global connectivity through cultrual exchange, grant job oppotunities to many citizens, and contribute significantly to the overall economy.
