The rapid development of today’s world leads to cultures merging and evolving, often leaving behind their origins and authenticity. There are some people who stay indifferent to the traditional life of their ancestors fading away, whereas others argue about the importance of preserving it. In this essay I’m going to discuss both points of view.
To begin with, nowadays we are free to choose the country to live in. Thousands of thousands of people leave their birthplace due to various reasons and feel no need in carrying their cultural background in order to fit in and adapt to a new place faster. What’s more, many traditions are no longer relevant. There is no need in marrying off children because of an overall short lifespan or in cooking on the open air to survive, so not many are willing to preserve traditions of such matter.
Nevertheless, some say that we are no ones without our history. The sacred knowledge of all the cultures dates back centuries and as it doesn’t lose its significance till today, it should be preserved to the same mistakes never be made again. Moreover, all humans crave for a sense of belonging and maintaining one’s traditional culture is one of the simplest ways to get one.
Talking about my point of view, I believe that it is important to preserve a traditional way of life, at least to some extent. I don’t find it appealing to live in a hut, birth children every year and fight the bears, but I love my cultural cuisine, history, art and overall mentality, because it will forever be an integral part of my personality. And I strongly believe that it is true for most of us humans.
In conclusion I would say that preserving every aspect of a culture is very debatable, but the core parts of it make us who we are and should definitely be protected.
