The question of whether face-to-face interractions are superior to communication over text has been occurring frequently in the past few years. With the introduction of the internet and smartphones people may find it more convenient to send messages to each other rather than meeting in person. I believe that nothing can replace spoken communitation since it is crucial to better understand your companion and to form deeper relationship with them.
First and foremost, oral communication gives the opportunity for our brain to analyse the mood and intentions of the speaker. In case of face-to-face interraction not only that can be processed but also the facial expressions. It is believed that around 70% of the information that we get from a direct conversation is being carried not by the words themselves but rather throught the mimics and tone.
Secondly, it is easier to form deeper bonds with people in case of the voice medium. It might be harder to trust an abstract “someone out there” because one might never know for sure if they are lying or not. Human nature works on more “real” things rather than a message. An example could be that relationships that, for one reason or another, shifted to the long-distance format fall apart faster, than they would if they were to continue being in person.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that face-to-face communication is better. It gives an option to better understand a person, their mood, honesty and desires and, because of that, a stronger relationship can be built.
