Some people assume that government should invest in art-related fields such as music, painting and poetry, whereas others believe that there is no point doing it. In my opinion, I suppose that government’s concern and funding in art is a significant way to boost a country’s progress and development.
On the one hand, in specific circumstances, nation’s support for musicians, painters and poets may not be so urgent compared to other aspects. Especially, in developing countries, policies supporting commerce, healthcare and education are usually prioritized. By concentrating their effort in these urgent areas, pressing issues related to economy and residents’ conditions would be gradually handled, resulting in stablizing countries’ status and enhancing a sustainable standard of living. Additionally, in nations with volatile political and military situation, solutions supporting boosting army or foreign policies would be taken into consideration before anything else. Therefore, there are many aspects that should be concerned and invested due to a country’s specific situation.
On the other hand, the support of government in art-related areas would not be a total useless solution. First and foremost, art-related products or artworks may bring strong cultural values. By investing in this field, not only these important meaning would be spreaded widely among citizens, but it also prompts a concrete cultural image which can be a potential soft power of a country. For example, the culture of K-pop in South Korea has been promoted effectively all around the world and become a indispensable factor distributing to the rapid growth of this country. In addition, art represents the unstopable creativity and innovation of human-being. In a decade where the advances in technology remarkably affect to all living aspects, products and values that reflect original meaning and human nature should be preserved and developed effectively.
In conclusion, while funding in other practical fields may bring temporary solutions for the progress of a country, I filmly uphold the assumption that the support in art such as music, painting and poetry should also be taken into account for a long-term development.
