There are split opinions regarding solutions for resolving traffic problems faced by many people day to day. While some opine for investing in urban infrastructure, others prefer superior solutions. Although both have their own merits and demerits, I favour the latter one. Both these viewpoints along with my opinion are described in following paragraphs.
To begin with, focusing on urban infrastructure have ample advantages. Firstly, widening of roads, public transportation, highways, and so on helps individuals to go to other places quickly without spending too much time. To exemplify, in the big cities around the world, public transits like buses, plays an essential role in reducing the rate of traffic congestion, as they create an opportunity for the residents to go anywhere without wasting either time or money. Therefore, I strongly believe that the government should invest in urban infrastructure. But, one should keep in mind that no matter how much you invest in something, without proper management it will be a waste.
On the other hand, a few individuals believe that there are other better ways to resolve traffic problems. They insist that the government should encourage people to travel by public transport and promoting a healthier lifestyle by walking in short distances. These solutions do not require any extra efforts and done easily. For examples, people are promoted through government campaigns and speeches. Additionally, the tougher penalties are enforced for overspeed on the road. This will reduce the amount of car crashes that are caused by overspeed ultimately decrease traffic.
In my opinion, the other solutions for resolving traffic congestions are more effective because they can reduced the less vehicles and car crashes ultimately decrease the air pollution and CO2.
In conclusion, investing in infrastructure will offer some benefits in dealing with this traffic issue to some extent only. However, it will not be effective unless the Governments promotes and encourages people to control the traffic problem in the city.
