The upbringing of children in today’s competitive world is an intense topic of discussion. Some parents never appreciate or encourage their children’s performance in school, whereas other parents have high expectations for which they exert extra stress on their kids. Experts argued that both of these behaviors are detrimental to a child’s mental and physical health. In my opinion, I strongly concur with the experts view and my reasoning is outlined below.
Parents are always concerned about their child’s future and want them to fly in the bright sky. They feel their child should always be a step ahead of them. This positive enthusiasm leads to high expectations. And to fulfill these thoughts, they think strict behavior is key. Parents thought that if they did not put enough pressure on the child, he might not take school activities seriously, resulting in poor performance and a lackluster future. However, they forget that pressurizing students minds may result in harmful impacts. An individual who did not perform up to expectations might opt for suicide. According to research conducted at New York University, the reason behind the suicides committed by students is their parents high expectations. Thus, parents should be cautious with their attitude towards their children.
However, parents are the best people to think about children’s future. They are observing the child right from birth and better know his abilities and interests than others do. Thus, they are the best ones to guide the children for the betterment of their careers and suggest the right education. But, for this, there is no need to be strict, love and care can do well. Moreover, appreciation is crucial at each stage, it will motivate and inspire the kid to do better and better. No encouragement will lower self-esteem and confidence, which will have negative consequences.
In conclusion, the right attitude and respectful behavior are the keys to success, and parents should acknowledge this. Giving burden of performing well without appreciation and words of encouragement will not yield fruitful results.
