Undoubtedly, sports activities play an indispensable role in people’s lives. However, it is often argued that extreme sports, such as skydiving and skiing, are excessively dangerous and should therefore be prohibited. Although these activities involve certain risks, I believe that they should not be banned because they provide entertainment and can be made considerably safer through appropriate regulations.
To begin with, extreme sports offer several benefits to both individuals and society. First and foremost, they provide participants with excitement and a sense of adventure, allowing them to overcome their fears and experience something different from their daily routines. As a result, people can enjoy their leisure time while developing confidence and resilience. Apart from this, extreme sports can promote tourism and create employment opportunities in areas where such activities are popular. For example, mountainous regions that offer skiing facilities often attract large numbers of tourists, which generates income for local businesses and residents.
However, the risks associated with these activities can be reduced through effective safety measures rather than an outright ban. Firstly, participants should be required to follow strict safety regulations and use appropriate protective equipment. This can significantly reduce the likelihood of serious accidents. Secondly, governments and relevant authorities can regulate these sports by ensuring that trained professionals, suitable equipment and emergency services are available at activity centres. For instance, qualified instructors can supervise participants and provide immediate assistance when necessary. Therefore, proper regulation can allow people to enjoy extreme sports while keeping the associated risks under control.
In conclusion, no doubt, extreme sports can be dangerous, but banning them completely is not the only way to address these risks. In my view, strict safety regulations, professional supervision and appropriate protective equipment can make these activities considerably safer while allowing people to enjoy their recreational and tourism-related benefits.
