There is an ongoing debate about whether governments should prioritise funding of public services rather than spending money on the arts. Although public investment can improve living standards, it should not come at the expense of spending on the society’s culture and creativity. I believe that governments should allocate resources efficiently. Governments should invest more on public services without neglecting the arts.
I would argue that investment in public services plays a crucial role in improving people’s quality of life. Essential public services, such as healthcare, public transportation, and education, should be free or affordable. Affordable public servives enable low-income people to spend more of their income on rent and other necessities. Limited funding of healthcare could deteriorate access to medical care, which may have negative consequenses. In addition, investment in education could result in skilled workforce.
The arts are still an integral part of society. Rather than merely spending on public services, governments should provide financial support for the arts. Therefore, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen national identity. It would help to embrace cultural diversity and develop creative industries, which may create new workplaces. Moreover, the support could increase economic development as the arts can attract tourists and support the local economy.
In conclusion, I believe that public services should receive a larger share of government funding. However, funding of the arts is essential because it helps strengthen national identity and embrace creativity of community. Both sectors, the arts and public services, can contribute to economic development of a country.
