It is often observed that many individuals decide to reduce the number of times they fly every year or to stop flying altogether. There are both merits and demerits, and I think that the benefits are greater than the drawbacks.
To begin with, there are some disadvantages for this trend. First of all, it is inconvenient to travel long distances, which can business loss. For example, business may face difficulties because employees cannot travel to attend meetings or meet international clients. This can also contribute to diplomatic issues by stopping flying, because it is important for diplomatic communications. As a result, this phenomenon may reduce business opportunities and increase the time required for international cooperation.
However, not all aspects of this trend are disadvantageous. First and foremost, reducing the number of flights can lower carbon emissions because aircraft consume large amounts of fossil fuel. Lower carbon emissions can alleviate climate change such as rising sea levels and heat waves. Nowadays, environmental issues are increasing throughout the world as amount of carbon emissions increases. For instance, climate change affects not only individual travellers but also communities, businesses and future generations. Thus, reducing flights is essential in the long term. Moreover, excessive flights may cause waste of resources, because fossil fuels may be limited in the future.
In conclusion, although reducing air travel may cause inconvenience and economic losses, these disadvantages can be addressed through online meetings and alternative transport. Therefore, I believe that the long-term environmental benefits outweigh the short-term disadvantages.
