A highly controversial issue today relates to whether that grandparents should share the same roof with their children and grandchildren or not. I am going to examine this question from both points of view and then explain why I believe that parents should live together with their relatives.
There are people who argue that the benefit of all family members living together considerably outweigh its disadvantages. The main reason for believing this is that grandparents need care when they are getting older. It is also possible to say that this care and support in daily tasks can be taken over by their children. One outstanding benefit of doing so is that no money has to be spent on external care services.
On the other hand, others believe that individual family members would like to have their private sphere. It is often argued that living to close together could increase the potential of conflicts between the relatives. People mostly have this opinion because there are different opinions on how things should be done. A second point is that the grandparents have no interests in getting supervised of their children when they are old and might have silly ideas. A particularly good example here is that the children could tell their parents when they should stop driving.
In conclusion, I believe both arguments have their merits. On balance, however, I feel that grandparents should live with their family. This is because they can spend time together and no one knows for how long this privilege persists.
