Wearing a uniform is mandatory for workers in some businesses and corporations worldwide. While a sense of equality and unity is a clear benefit, there are also downsides, such as a lack of convenience and freedom of choice.
With regard to advantages, employees can be equal in terms of garments if uniforms are obligatory at the workplace. It is obvious that not everybody can afford to wear a wide range of clothes, but purchasing uniforms is quite reasonable. In other words, workers from destitute backgrounds do not feel insecure or intimidated if every employee has to wear a company uniform. In addition, workers may feel proud and united if they maintain distinct brand uniforms at work. Specifically, they stand out from the crowd along with customers due to their unique uniforms, which could present them with a feeling of pride and unity. For instance, in the Coca-Cola company, employees must wear a red uniform with the brand name written behind it, making it more noticeable to the public. As a result, workers have fulfillment and satisfaction owing to being in their staff and team.
Nevertheless, employees with uniforms are still prone to several drawbacks. One of these is inconvenience, which results from wearing formal uniforms for an extended period. Workers usually spend 7-8 hours at the workplace, and it is logical that by wearing uniforms, they experience discomfort. Moreover, it is fair to claim that everyone should have a right to choose their clothes for outside and work. If they are limited to only one type of attire at the workplace, it might affect their work efficiency; the reason is that they may not concentrate well due to the restriction of their choice regarding clothes because of compulsory clothing required by organizations. This circumstance is often the case in government establishments, where workers are in their uniforms for hours, which causes dissatisfaction and lower productivity overall.
In summary, the uniform requirement can be equally advantageous and disadvantageous for employees, bringing positive and negative feelings in current realities.
