There is a general belief that the crucial purpose of universities is to procure essential knowledge for graduates to get on with their future careers. However, some argue that providing them with knowledge disregards the usefulness of the course to get a workplace, it is enough. In my opinion, tertiary education should adapt their curricula to address the contemporary needs, skills, and experience which is required by employers.
First of all, graduates need to be prepared by the university syllabus to be able to compete in the job market. Nowadays the job market is very competitive, it is difficult to get a job since there are many applications for one workplace. Therefore, employers choose ready-made specialists who will have the responsibility for what their job needs them to do. Without university preparation, graduates will not be competitive enough to get a job.
On the other hand, universities focus on basic knowledge of the enter subject, which is beneficial for students multi-tasking. For instance, business management courses teach about researching, analyzing, and statistics. It is up to the student to choose a job from their preference since they will have a lot of different knowledge for various spheres. If a freshman knows a lot of subjects, it will help them easily find the job occupation.
In summary, I think that the university has to prepare graduates for their future careers.
