A increasing numbers of countries are choosing to increase tourism by constructing roads and facilities to make cultural heritage sites more accessible to tourists. In my opinion, this is a negative development because it can damage the local environment and sites, either by accident or on purpose.
The primary concern for increasing tourism is unintentional harm to the environment. For instance, there are many places in India, which has a lots of flora and fauna, which get disturbed by the visitors. Mainly the animals get terrified from the cackophony made by the travellers.Furthermore, the cars and buses create the noise pollution, this strain the environment. Hence, tourism can harm the site even when the visitors are being careful.
An additional reason for my stance is that some people deliberately vandalize sites. Moreover, construction of roads increases the chances of robbery because it will become much easier for theif to steal valuable objects. A case in point is Egypt, which is widely known for its pyramid and treasure in the burial of the kings. Ancient robbers used the path that were constructed by tribal people living there, which eventually made easy for the lotters to steal all the treasure. Therefore, security is compromised if accessibility is increased.
In conclusion, although it has become more popular for governments to make cultural sites easy for tourists to explore, it has brought about many problems, like intentional vandalism or thoughtless pollution which is detrimental for heritage of that site as well as for the environment.
