Children in some countries, nowadays study in schools for a comparatively lesser number of hours than earlier. In my view, reducing the school time is a negative development instead of giving more. The essay will briefly explain why it is a negative development with the help of suitable facts and illustrations.
In the first paragraph, I will point out some negatives behind such a development. Firstly, once the school reduces the number of hours, then not only it will lose the luxury of including extra curriculum activities apart from the studies in the schedule; but also the time given to each subject will be compromised. To elaborate many schools which work with short hours remove the slots for curriculum. Of sports activities, swimming classes, karate-Judo classes and craft classes from their curriculum course, there are many institutions which also arrange such activities for the students, once in a week. However, in none of the above cases, a student would completely develop the qualities which are very necessary for his/her all-round development, for example, with sports a child may create a bright future, swimming is always necessary to learn, Karate-judo are required to teach self-defense to the juveniles and Craft enhances creativity. So all in all, something very precious would be snatched from the students if the school hours are reduced.
Furthermore, it will also moderately affect on the student studies as well. To begin with, with overall reduction in time, an academy might be pushed to lessen the duration of lectures as well. To explain, a school might be asked to reduce the lecture-limit from 1 hour to 45 minutes in order to reduce the overall time. Hence, this will push the faculties to run through the lectures which will somehow decline the effectiveness of them. Moreover, the slain to arrange regular doubt solving sessions, revision or practice sessions would also be compromised to a considerable extent. Furthermore, certain extra-curriculum activities, such as elocution or debate-competition may also be ignored because of the time constraint, which can take away a healthy opportunity from the students to develop their oratorical skills. Above all, such a step will impact more negatively than positively.
Conversely, one must not ignore the bright side of trimming the school hours. First of all, students not only will suffer less stress but also get more time to relax and respire. Further, the students get sufficient time to do leisure activities like playing games or watching TV which can refresh their mind; also they can enroll in various sports academies or hire extra tuition classes. However, all these can be done in schools with even more effectiveness. To explain, schools, no doubt can afford top trainers for any field; hence, with proper planning and management, they educators arrange everything in the school itself. Besides, it will be cheaper than outside and safe too. Hence, the advantages here are redundant and that’s why, I feel that such a step is neither productive nor appropriate.
To conclude, children go to school in search of all-round development, and not just for the studies. Therefore, the schools should equally focus on both, academic and non-academic activities which are only possible if they run for longer periods, as shorter periods, as discussed above, are completely ineffective and disadvantageous.
