Band 5+: some employers believe that job applicants' social skills are more important than their academic qualifications.Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this competitive market, owning talented workers is important and it can significantly affect the development of the company. While some managers believe the key factor to consider job applicants is their social skills, the others say academic degree is more significant. From my perspective, I advocate for the former statement as its benefits for the company’s sale and effective team work.

Admittedly, it is still a common practice that managers will look at applicants CVs first when they have interviews.. And only when the requirement about qualifications and experiences can be met, will employers consider other factors. Additionally, people armed with high degrees usually have a wide knowledge about their professions so they may have the ability to cope with difficult problems. However, academic qualifications can not fully reflect a person’s competence and many employees who have specific degrees still produce inferior performance at work due to the lack of other essential skills or experiences

Furthermore, workers with better social skills can bring far more advantages for the company ,relating to the sales of products and relationships between colleagues. For the former, besides the quality of products, service is another significant factor which affects customer satisfaction. And staff who are friendly and have good communication skills can encourage consumers to spend more money on the corporation’s items. These people can also have innovative ways to advertise their brands to the public so the company’s popularity can be increased. Additionally, they can work more efficiently in a team. Collaboration is common in every aspect of the modern workplace and people with good social skills can create bonds between clients, enhance positive relationships and help to assign missions more reasonably. As a result, the efficiency at work can rise dramatically.

In conclusion, although considering academic qualifications is a common practise, I believe that social skills are more essential so the preference to this

characteristics should be encouraged to meet the success of the organization.
