In this essay, I will elaborate the pros and cons of learning a foreign language and present my inclination in the ensuing paragraphs.
First and foremost, it is a positive aspect to obtaining a new language as it provides higher chances for the language learner to achieve greater proficiency in that language. For example, bilinguals have more flexibility in their mind as they are enhancing brain function to prevent possible age-related cognitive decline. Another reason is that children could excel in both academic and physical performances later. For instance, by obtaining a new language their avalabities to instill critical thinking skills and creativity are increasing due to children’s activeness and agility. As a result, it will result in more approachable and easy career opportunities in the long term.
On the contrary, there are some potential drawbacks related to learning a foreign language at primary school. Firstly, children may get confused or forget their mother tongue. For example, children who speak two or three languages frequently may mix words or phrases which would negatively affect the child’s overall proficiency in both languages. Moreover, teaching a new language from an early childhood can create additional pressure and effort on guardians. For example, they may need to pay for extra resources such as tutors or private training centers which can be expensive and demanding.
