People argue that it is the government’s responsibility to cover the cost of higher education, while others defend its procedures. I shall expound upon both perspectives and give my ideas in this essay.
To begin with, it is unavoidable that high education is the backbone of every society and fundamental of a developed country. Although in some countries, for instance, Australia, the government has the Commonwealth funds to support education for their citizens and permanent residents, many countries only pay for pre-college education, from elementary school through high school, which can lead to several problems. Since a significant proportion of students, or their families take into debt to pay the tuition fee, students try to get a job as soon as possible, in order not to delay the alumni debt, as it increases over time, than concentrating on the classes, which is one indication of this problem. The most effective way to solve this problem is by utilizing annual taxes.
On the other hand, it can lead to a dispute among people that their taxes are transferred to fund other’s education rather than for their facilities, such as free healthcare and the rest. The main fact that is given by people who support this view is that since it is an individual’s own to choose whether to get a higher education or not, he/she is also responsible for covering all the costs.
In conclusion, there have been debates whether higher education should be funded by the government or should fall under the purview of private education. However, another way is offering better alternatives, such as loans with less debt or setting aside funds for a child’s education in bank accounts.
