There are certain groups of people who believe that using mobile phones is beneficial for juveniles, while others dispute with it. In my opinion, this a negative development that could contribute to social isolation and technological addiction.
On the one hand, juveniles can significantly enhance their cognitive abilities through using smartphones. To provide further explanation, interacting with mobile applications and games not only develops logical thinking but also contributes to digital literacy. Moreover, using several mobile applications simultaneously can be beneficial for children since it improves their multi-tasking abilities. For instance, a study conducted by Harvard University in 2015 showed that children who uses their mobile phones consistently have better thinking abilities that children who do not have any mobile gadgets.
On the other hand, while using smartphones may offer certain advantages, it also brings numerous potential negative outcomes such as social isolation and technological addiction. To clarify, when juveniles only interact with people through sending messages via social media, they do not develop their social skills, potentially leading to social isolation in the future. Additionally, while children interact with mobile applications and video games, their brains release dopamine that contributes technological addiction. To illustrate, a study conducted by Harvard University in 2014 showed that dopamine releases contribute to the sense of joy and excitement, making juveniles to use their smartphones consistently.
In my opinion, it is much better for children to use their smartphones rarely since using mobile devices may contribute to negative consequences in the future.
In conclusion, although having a phone since childhood may be beneficial, I assert that in order to prevent negative outcomes juveniles should use mobile phones rarely.
