It is often argued that since mass media only influences society negatively, it should face a ban. While I admit that mass media could sometimes have negative impacts on communities, I would argue that it can make positive contributions.
On the one hand, it is understandable that mass media might have repercussions on a community and needs to be restricted. Firstly, mass media could contribute to the spread of misinformation and fake news. Due to technological advancements and the appearance of some platforms, following the latest news has gained popularity among individuals, especially through social media, leading to the distribution of false information quickly. This seems to result in confusion, fear, and even panic in society. Secondly, television, as a form of mass media, could bring about various health issues. Prolonged use of televisions could lead to a sedentary lifestyle which could cause assorted medical problems such as obesity or overeating, particularly in children, due to the deficiency of physical activity.
However, it is imperative to recognize that the significance of mass media in society should not be underestimated. First and foremost, mass media can boost the economy. It can create a substantial number of job opportunities, bringing welfare and prosperity to communities. For instance, a large number of people generate revenue from selling their handmade merchandise on social media. Another reason could be attributed to the fact that mass media has significant educational benefits. Platforms such as online courses, documentaries, and educational television programs tend to allow people to nurture valuable competencies. Watching foreign movies or listening to international podcasts can assist individuals to enhance their language skills.
In conclusion, some argue that the banning of mass media ought to be enforced as it affects society in negative ways. Although I accept that mass media might pose certain problems, it can have positive effects on society.
