Some individuals contend that the best method to enhance public health is by increasing the taxes on unhealthy foods, such as sugary drinks and fast food, whereas others argue that education and awareness campaigns are more effective in encouraging healthier lifestyle. While both perspectives have merit, I believe that the combination of both methods is a good way to improve the public health and reduce the negative effect of junk foods.
On the one hand, increasing the taxes on unhealthy foods has several benefits. It is true that the time people spend for working and studying are rising. In the past, people did not face too much pressure of job market, so they have more time for cooking healthy meals and workout. However, nowadays, due to the advanced development of AI, people have to spend more time and put more effort into work to avoid lossing their jobs. As a result, they do not have much time and decide to choose the junk foods, which have more calories while really cheap and convenient. Therefore, by increasing the taxes of junk foods, authority can limit the consumption of junk food, which cause numerous health issues, such as obesity and the weakness of immune system. When limiting the consumption of junk foods by imposing taxes, the overall public health can enhance.
On the other hand, education and awareness campaigns also have advantage effects on encouraing healthier lifestyle. Numerous individuals consume junk foods, but they do not have a clear knowledge about those foods. Most of junks foods have little nutrients while the calories are always high. Futhermore, they do not understand the harmful effects of those foods that cause several disease like heartache and weakened digestive system. Thus, when raising awareness of people about the bad impacts of junk foods, citizens will change their behavior and adopt a more positive attitude toward this matter. As a result, people can have a healthier lifestyle and improve overall public health.
In conclusion, although both views have their merits, I am convinced that the combination of both methods can offer a more optimaly result in the process of improve public health.
