In the contemporary era, legislation is the most powerful weapon of each country, that’s control and manage the community to make sure about the society’s order and security, especially is criminal justice system. That legal system is including every punish measure for criminals on each level. If seriously, the lawbreakers will face with the death penalty. But if the lightest crime, the offenders just need to give an amount of money to the law enforcement or rehabilitation. But, because of the development of the society’s awareness, so there or many people think that instead of send the criminal to the prison or to death to punish them, why don’t we should more focus on reform them. And so, from my perspective, I concur with that viewpoint.
Primarily, the regulation system is just towards reform to the lawbreaker instead of the punishment and that can be a big change. But in my opinion, there are many punishment measures in the law and including of that is rehabilitation, so reform the criminal is still the punishment from the statute. But there are still have the difference between that, the punishment such as go to prison or fines is for the criminal who can’t reform anymore, they need to face charges heinous crime. On the other hand, for the offenders who have problem with their personality or abuse drugs, they just need to send to rehabilitation center to reform them against to become a better version and useful in the society. And so, for the people support that idea, they think the reformation is much better than the punishment that the law give out because before, they were breaking many laws and being scared by the community but after they went out of the rehabilitation centers, they became a different people, enthusiastic and sociable. That’s why reforming to the criminal is really important, changes their personality and behavior in a positive way.
Reversely, rehabilitation instead of punishment also has its drawbacks. There are still a number of people who disagree with that view and I will mention some of their opinions. If the legal system enforces about focusing on reform the criminal to avoid the development of the offender, I think that’s not effective enough. To reduce the crime rate, the criminal justice system need to stricter in managing the perpetrators of many cases, they also need to practice all the authorized punishment of the regulation such as sent to prison, capital punishment,… for the offenders to control the society effectively. The punishment of the law is a thing that we can believe in, recover the justice to the victims and punish the lawbreakers who create the crime behaviors in a worthy way.
In a nutshell, the law will more focus on reformation than punishment and I believe that will become a thing that the society and community toward in the future. But someone who disagree with that think management way of the government is too loose .Probably, that is the only effective way.
